Could Grand Haven Be the Next Waco?

There are some things you don’t necessarily want others to know about you, but I feel like I need to share one of these things about myself with you. I confess that I am a Today show addict—I wake up every day and turn it on first thing in the morning.

Yesterday was no different, and when I tuned into my morning show, I was so excited to see another one of my “addictions” on the screen—Chip and Joanna Gaines from HGTV’s hit show Fixer Upper. They were promoting their new book that tells the story about their life together and their journey to success.

PUTTING GRAND HAVEN ON THE MAP

As I listened to Chip and Joanna talk about how they put Waco, Texas on the map, bringing in 35,000 visitors a week to visit their Magnolia Market, I thought about the possibilities for Grand Haven and Blueberry Haven. Why not?

I’m sure some of you are chuckling as you read this, but it could happen! Grand Haven has so many great characteristics that would make people flock to our beautiful town if they just knew it existed. Our quaint city could become a destination for people from all over the world.

I’m not saying we necessarily want that kind of craziness in our town, but I love the thought of the great prosperity that is possible for Grand Haven. It could open the door for many more local jobs, and people wouldn’t have to drive to Holland, Grand Rapids, Zeeland, or Muskegon for work. Keep your eye on Grand Haven—it could be the next Waco!

Well, for me it’s a fun thought, especially after a recent college visit with one of my sons to a school that only gives out degrees in entrepreneurship. Now if I can just convince him it’s a perfect fit!
